Rocky Mountains, a Self – Portrait

$ 50.00

At eight-years-old Kent Gunnufson photographed Yosemite’s Lower Falls with his father’s manual camera. After graduating from college, he sacrifices professional careers to work the construction trades in the harsh, cold environment at 10,000 feet in order to fulfill his dream of pursuing skiing and alpine photography.

In Rocky Mountains – A Self-Portrait, Gunnufson’s personal narrative offers an inside look at the “golden years” of the ski community’s past and highlights his evolution in portraying the dramatic B&W landscape.
Quotes from renowned artists offer their thoughts on the essence of composing a photograph and are paired with images to reinforce the understanding of the author’s artistic journey. Minor White states a postulate of photography in “…all photographs are self-portraits.” The offered quotes are not only entertaining, but historically offer insights into the artists’ process prior to Post-Modernism. Book available the winter of 2020.
